Assessment in Postsecondary Education

Donna Vinton

Assessment in Postsecondary Education is a required course for students in the master’s degree program in Postsecondary Education: Student Affairs at the University of Northern Iowa. Students from the selected doctoral programs from the Department of Curriculum and Instruction and the Department of Technology also have the option of taking the course as an elective in their degree program. This semester-long, face-to-face course meets for three hours once a week. The course is supported by a learning management system web site that provides course-related resources and information for students and is incorporated into class-period activities. The overall purposes of the course are to provide students with basic content knowledge and skills related to conducting assessment activities as practitioners in their field and to encourage the development of a positive view of the value of assessment in postsecondary education.
