Abstract

This is both the current syllabus for the first year, core, introduction course on Games Design at Staffordshire University, and a review of its previous incarnations, included to give the current content and assessment context. The Course covers topics overviewing a wide range of elements about Computer Games Design and Level design. It’s currently delivered in a series of two hour semi-interactive lectures spread across both semester of study – and incorporates both on-line and distance learning students. The assessment and it’s marking criteria are also included and dicussed.

Nia Wearn, Staffordshire University

I'm a senior lecturer in Games Design at Staffordshire University - I talk about Game and Level design, Narrative, Production, Business issues and Marketing.

I'm very interested in Group work, and how students can work together to make games in an educational setting. I also run our annual Global Games Jam site.
